Watch India's Aanchal Thakur participate in World Ski Championships 2021

Aanchal Thakur hails from Manali and is an alpine skier. She took part during the 2012 Winter Olympics and was the only Indian to represent in alpine skiing. During the 2018 Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup in Turkey, she also won bronze, handing India the sport's first medal.

Indian alpine skier Aanchal Thakur has created history by becoming the first Indian woman to participate in the World Ski Championships 2021, currently being held in Cortina, Italy. She was one of the 107th participants and managed to finish at the 65th spot.

Aanchal, a 24-year-old skier from Manali, is taking India to the next level, as this was the baby step in the world of winter sports for the nation, with Aanchal qualifying for major meets. She was also one of the participants during the 2012 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, where she was the only Indian.

She also took part during the 2012 Youth Winter Olympics at the Slalom and Giant Slalom event. In 2018, she created another history, as she won bronze during the 2018 Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup, held in Turkey. It was also India's first-ever medal in the sport.

Aanchal also happens to the daughter of famous paraglider pilot Roshan Thakur. He had helped Prime Minister Narendra Modi tour Manali during one of his visits a decade ago.
