The Indian athletes are getting ready to travel to Tokyo for the upcoming Olympic Games, set to get underway from July 23. Meanwhile, the Indian Olympic Association has made it clear that the digital rights, including image and video, are held by IOA itself.

The clarification comes after a few Olympic athletes were reportedly unhappy since many have sponsorship rights that demand the athlete's Olympic image. "This is to inform you that for the Olympics, all digital, video and image rights of qualified athletes are with the IOA, and IOA has the authority to utilise the same for all its sponsors etc.," said IOA in a statement.

"We have received some resistance from few players through its federations and this is not acceptable by IOA at all, and action will be taken on such cases. IOA is sending you an affidavit, which is to be signed by all qualified athletes as per our charter," it stated.

While IOA clarified that the digital rights ate already in effect, it also explained that the athletes are supposed to wear the kit provided by IOA. It also warned that failing to do so will draw stern action.

"For example, if the IOA asks a particular athlete to provide us any photo or audio or video footage, he or she cannot deny from giving them on the ground that they are the property of their individual sponsors. Moreover, they will have to wear only the kit provided by the IOA and no other," it concluded.
