The Tokyo Olympics is less than a month away. Meanwhile, the Indian contingent continues to get strong, with over 120 athletes expected. In the same light, gymnast Pranati Nayak has become the latest to qualify for the global event.

In yet another good news for the Tokyo-bound Indian contingent, gymnast Pranati Nayak has become the latest to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games. The 26-year-old Bengal-based gymnast earned her quota on Monday, as was confirmed by the International Gymnastics Federation.

Pranati earned the quota as the scheduled Asian Championships to be held in Tokyo last month was cancelled, while she was given the same through reallocation. Meanwhile, her allocation was based on her 2019 Asian Championships performance.

“We have got official confirmation from the International governing body in gymnastics on Monday evening that Pranati has been reallocated continental quota place to compete at the Olympics,” her coach Lakhan Sharma was quoted as saying to IANS. Pranati won bronze during the 2019 Asian Championships, which happens to be her only medal to date.
