In what comes as a heartbreak for the United States of America's Tokyo Olympics contingent, golfer Bryson DeChambeau has tested positive for COVID. He tested positive right before his Tokyo departure on Saturday evening, as he has now been pulled out of the side's golf team.

Meanwhile, Patrick Reed would be replacing him during the Games. He is currently undergoing the mandatory final round of tests before his scheduled departure to Tokyo on Sunday, while the golf events start on Thursday.

"I am deeply disappointed not to be able to compete in the Olympics for Team USA. Representing my country means the world to me, and it is a tremendous honour to make this team. I wish Team USA the best of luck next week in Tokyo," DeChambeau said, reports US Golf in a statement.

In the meantime, Reed would become the only two-time Olympian in men's golf for the USA, having also played during the 2016 Rio Olympics. As for Tokyo, he would be accompanied by Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele, while the women include Nelly Korda, Danielle Kang, Lexi Thompson and Jessica Korda.

"I am so excited to have the opportunity to represent our country and be a part of Team USA in Tokyo. I wish Bryson nothing but the best, and I know how disappointed he is to not be able to compete, and I will do my best to play my best and represent our country," asserted Reed.
