In yet another setback for Indian boxing in the Tokyo Olympics, flyweight boxer Amit Panghal was ousted by Colombia's Yuberjen Martinez in the pre-quarters bout on Saturday. The world number one Indian lost it by a considerable margin of 4-1.

Panghal was the top-seeded Indian and was making his Olympic debut after receiving a bye in the opening round. Although the Indian was under pressure against the 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist, he did well to connect his punches on the Colombian to win the opening round 4-1.

However, the Indian was already aware of Martinez's pace, as in the following round, the Colombian bounced back with some strong blows to Panghal's body, courtesy of his uppercuts. Although the Indian tried to respond back, the Colombian's resolution allowed him to level in the round.

As things moved into the decisive round, Panghal went defensive while Martinez accelerated his intensity, outplaying the former and winning the bout 4-1. The Colombian is looking to turn professional following his stint at this Games.
