Tokyo Olympics 2020: Sania-Ankita pair suffers disappointing first round exit
Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina saw their fortunes reverse after the first set which the duo won comfortably 6-0. The Ukrainians made a stunning comeback to beat the Indian pair.
India's challenge in the women's doubles tennis event came to an end in the first round when the pair of Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina lost to Ukraine's Liudmyla Kichenok and Nadiia Kichenok.
Sania and Ankita saw their fortunes reverse after the first set, which the duo won 6-0.
The Ukrainian pair made a tremendous comeback after going down 5-1 in the second set to win the tie-breaker 7-6.Â
The Ukrainians then took the third set 10-8 in a tie-breaker to win the match.
When Sania took to the Ariake tennis court, she became the first female athlete to represent India at the four Olympics. The 34-year-old entered the Tokyo Olympics on the basis of her injury-protected world ranking of number 9.
