Sourav Ganguly ideal replacement for Thakur in BCCI

BCCI took a massive blow on Monday when the Supreme Court axed the Board president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke with immediate effect. The Supreme Court Supreme Court has appointed former Solicitor General of India and senior lawyer Fali Nariman and Gopal Subramanium to suggest a name for the next BCCI president.

A name that has been doing rounds is that of the former Indian cricket team captain and the current president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), Sourav Ganguly.

Ganguly’s name came up because he already has administrative experience as he has been at the helm of CAB for quite some time now. After Jagmohan Dalmiya passed away, Ganguly took over the reigns and he has done a commendable job so far.

However, he is not the vice-president of the BCCI and he still has three years left with the CAB. But he is a member of the IPL Governing Council. Technically, Dada, as he is popularly known as, is not really eligible for the hot seat in BCCI.

In case, Ganguly is given the role, one can expect him to do a much better job than the predecessors.

Meanwhile, there are several important decisions to be taken including the TV rights of the 10th edition of the most popular T20 league in the world. Therefore, a decision needs to come in quickly from the committee.
