The former world no. 1 Saina Nehwal has managed to reach the semi-final of the first tournament of the season – Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold. Saina did not have a good 2016 and that probably led to the rise of PV Sindhu.

 

Saina’s Rio Olympics 2016 hopes were dashed as well as she had to undergo a surgery in August. Post the surgery, she was in rehabilitation and now she is back and how. Saina has credited her coach and physiotherapist for standing by her side in her difficult times.

She has stormed into the last four of the tournament after decimating Indonesian Fitriani Fitriani 21-15, 21-14 in the quarter final on Friday. The Indian shuttler looked in great touch and finished the game in just 40 minutes.

Saina will now face Hong Kong’s Yip Pui Yin in the semi final of the Malaysia Masters. The Indian has got the better of the Hong Kong international shuttler six times in the past. Therefore, Nehwal has quite a chance to go ahead and clinch the Malaysia Masters title. This will be her first title of 2017 and also the first title after Australian Open Super Series in 2016.
