Virat Kohli and his men took just four and a half hours to route Sri Lanka and win the three-match series with a 2-0 lead. India won by an innings and 53 runs. And it was Ravindra Jadeja who wreaked havoc on the last day of the match.

Jadeja was awarded the man-of-the-match for picking up seven wickets and scoring seventy runs. The match also saw Jadeja pick his ninth five-wicket haul. It was also his second five-wicket haul outside India.

Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews were going great and would have forced India to bat after enforcing the follow-on on Saturday, August 5, 2017. By Sunday morning, Karunaratne registered his fourth Test hundred.

Post lunch, Kohli turned to Jadeja to break the partnership. Jadeja immediately set to work and sent Karunaratne packing after he scored 141 runs. Jadeja dismissed Mathews in the very next over, caught brilliantly by Saha. The Sri Lankan lower order fell quickly, and India had another easy victory in their hands.

Jadeja also became the second fastest Indian after Ravichandran Ashwin to take 150 wickets.

However, what has come as a dampener on Jadeja’s achievement is the fact that he has been suspended for the third Test at Pallekele by the International Cricket Council for code of conduct breach.

Jadeja after fielding off his own bowling on the final delivery of the 58th over threw the ball at Dimuth Karunaratne, who had not left his crease.

The on-field umpires deemed the action dangerous as it narrowly missed the batsman.

Jadeja has been suspended as his accumulated demerit points reached six within a 24-month period, following his latest breach of the ICC code, which led to a 50 % fine and three demerit points, an ICC release said.

Jadeja was handed a 50 % fine and three demerit points during the Indore Test against New Zealand in October for a code violation. With the addition of Saturday’s three demerit points, he reached the threshold of four demerit points, which have been converted into two suspension points.

The third Test against Sri Lanka will be played in Pallekele from August 12-16.
