The Golden boy of the Indian Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Neeraj Chopra has become a social media sensation as he clocked over 2 million followers in just 24 hours after his record-winning Javelin throw.

India's Olympic games gold medal winner Neeraj Chopra has stormed the social media platform as his official Instagram account witnessed a record jump in the number of followers with over 2 million in just 24 hours after he won the gold medal.

As per reports, the athlete had about 100 thousand followers on Instagram but after his powerful arms registered a record Javelin Throw with 87.58 meters distance.

Followers started to swell immediately after he ensured Gold and 2.2 million followers were added between August 7 to August 8 and at present, he has 3.2 million followers in Instagram.

The sportsman also has 351K followers on Facebook and has 416.6K followers on Twitter and both these segments also witnessed a jump in followers following his win in Tokyo.

Immediately after he won gold, the entire nation was in celebration mode as it has not won a gold medal since 2008. From PM Modi to opposition leaders, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, top athletes, cricketers, film actors, CMs of different states and celebrities all tweeted in joy.

Back home, the Rajasthan Rifles Regiment of the Indian Army celebrated his victory and raised slogans.

Now in honour of the sportsman Subedar Neeraj Chopra and Javelin Throw, the Athletic Federation of India has announced that henceforth it will mark August 7 as 'Javelin Throw Day' and hold national level competition from next year.

According to media reports, the Indian sportsman is also the most mentioned sports person this time during Olympic events across social media platforms. USA's athlete Simone Biles who pulled out from the event tops the list and Chopra is the second person.
