In what comes as a big surprise, English champion Manchester City has signed English winger Jack Grealish for £100 million from Aston Villa. It happens to be a British transfer record for the most expensive player, going past Manchester United’s Paul Pogba (£89 million).

The Englishman has scored 37 goals in 252 matches, having played for Villa for eight seasons since 2013-14. He has signed a six-year contract at the Etihad Stadium. His run continues until 2027, while he would be donning the number ten jersey worn by club legend Sergio Aguero, who has joined Barcelona this season.

“I am incredibly happy to have joined Manchester City. City are the best team in the country with a manager considered to be the best in the world – it’s a dream come true to be part of this club,” he said in a statement.

“Over the past ten seasons, they have won major trophies consistently. Pep coming here has taken them to the next level and the football this team plays is the most exciting in Europe. To play for Pep and learn from him is going to be special and it’s something any top footballer would want. The facilities are amazing, and I honestly can’t wait to get started, meet everyone and get playing,” he added.

Although he hasn’t won any title so far in his career, it is all set to change at City, while he could win a championship in his first game, i.e. the FA Community Shield. He also helped England finish as the runner-up in the UEFA Euro 2020.
