Lasith Malinga left out of Sri Lanka squad for Pakistan ODIs world 2019

Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga has been dropped from the upcoming five-match ODI series against Pakistan.

Since the announcement, doubts have been raised on whether he will feature in the team's plans for the 2019 World Cup.

Malinga, feared for his awkward action and toe-crushing yorkers, made a comeback to the international cricket during June's Champions Trophy following a knee injury that kept him out of the World Twenty20 last year. But his form has had the selectors worried.

The 34-year-old has not been as effective since his return and has managed 10 wickets from 13 ODIs since his return. He has taken 301 wickets from 204 matches in his career.

Former captain Angelo Mathews is still recovering from his calf injury. He already has missed the ongoing Test series and now has been kept off the ODI series against Pakistan.

Middle-order batsman Chamara Kapugedera has made the cut and so has all-rounder Seekkuge Prasanna. Test skipper Dinesh Chandimal, who was not initially included for the recent ODI series against India, also will be playing.

Sri Lanka squad:

Upul Tharanga (Captain), Dushmantha Chameera, Dinesh Chandimal, Akila Dananjaya, Niroshan Dickwella, Vishwa Fernando, Chamara Kapugedera, Suranga Lakmal, Kusal Mendis, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Pradeep, Seekkuge Prasanna, Milinda Siriwardana, Lahiru Thirimanne, Jeffrey Vandersay.
