The Indian Olympic Association has made a joke out of two of the athletes who represented the nation at the Rio Olympics 2016. Indian golfers Anirban Lahiri and SSP Chawrasia are yet to receive payments from the sports ministry of India.  The latter has lashed out at the Indian government for not paying him the promised amount of ₹ 30 lakh, which was supposed to be his preparatory money for the Olympics.

Chawrasia has received only ₹ 5.5 lakh so far from the sports ministry. Lahiri, on the other hand, is yet to receive a penny from the Indian government. As we all know that that Rio Olympics got over in the month of August, it is indeed shameful that the government failed to take live up to the players’ expectations.

According to Chawrasia, the amount was further reduced to ₹ 15 lakh once they came back from Rio Olympics 2016. Chawrasia vented out his anger against the Indian Olympic Association who treated them like servants in Rio. They were even made to wait outside the airport for long in the cold and rain.

If this continues to happen, Indian athletes will lose all their faith on the sports ministry. These athletes work hard for months and years to get on top of their game and represent the nation at several competitions all over the world. In return, this is the kind of treatment they get.

Time for the sports ministry to open their eyes and act sensibly!
