FA Community Shield 2021: Leicester City shocks Manchester City to win 2nd crown

With just a week to go before the English domestic season gets underway, the 2021 FA Community Shield was held at the Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday as a prelude to the upcoming season. The clash was held between Premier League champion Manchester City and FA Cup champion Leicester City.

While City was the favourite to win the clash, Leicester pulled off a shock, with Kelechi Iheanacho's penalty in the closing stages handing it a win. As Leicester won its second-ever Shield, we take a look at how things panned out.

First half
The opening half was eventful, with as many as nine attempts being made. While Leicester's Kasper Schmeichel made a save in the seventh minute, followed by three saves from City's keeper Zack Steffen. Meanwhile, four-five chances went pegging, with most of the efforts being shot wide, as none of the sides could get the deadlock broken at half-time.

Second half
The second half was surprisingly composed compared to the opening half, with just four promising chances being created. While a couple of efforts from City went over the bar, Steffen made a crucial save to keep the deadlock in place. However, in the 87th minute, Nathan Aké brought down Iheanacho inside the box, while the latter swiftly converted it from the spot to hand the sole winner of the game and help the Foxes win the title.
