Portuguese sensation Cristiano Ronaldo is already in the headlines, having re-signed with his childhood club Manchester United last week. However, he is in the headlines again, this time in terms of international football.

Taking part in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Portugal was up against Ireland. Ronaldo's side won 2-1, thanks to his brace. As a result of this brace, he has now become the highest goal-scorer in men's international football.

His opening goal in the 89th minute saw him levelling the score after Ireland had put itself ahead in the 45th minute. The goal helped Ronaldo surpass the previous all-time record of Iran's Ali Daei, who had scored 109 international goals.

The former's winner in the 96th minute helped him extend the record, as the Portuguese is now the new highest scorer, with 111 goals, as he entered the Guinness Book of World Records. However, it is to be noted that the record of most international goals lies with Canadian woman footballer Christine Sinclair, who has scored 187 goals to date.

Following the record-breaking feat, Ronaldo told Sky Sports that he was delighted to have broken the record and believe in the side that could win the clash. While he also had his penalty saved in the 15th minute by Irish goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, he said that scoring and not scoring is part and parcel of the game.

Meanwhile, Portugal is on a roll in its Qualifiers group, which is currently placed atop the table. However, it could all change in the coming games, as Serbia, too, seems to be eyeing the top spot and can attain it by winning its next game.
