Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ayush Mhatre delivered a masterclass performance in the IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, or Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, on Friday, April 3.
After being put into bat first by PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, CSK posted a solid total of 209/5 in 20 overs. Ayush led the batting with a brilliant knock of 73 off 43 balls, including 6 fours and 5 sixes, at a strike rate of 169.77. Sarfaraz Khan scored a quickfire 32 off 11 balls, including 6 fours and a six, at a strike rate of 267.
The left-handed batter Shivam Dube contributed with an unbeaten innings of 45 off 27 balls, including 5 fours and a six, at a strike rate of 166.67. For PBKS, Vijaykumar Vyshak led the bowling attack with figures of 238 at an economy rate of 9.5 in his spell of four overs, while Yuzvendra Chahal (1/21), Xavier Bartlett (1/48), and Marco Jansen (1/41) picked a wicket each.

Ayush Mhatre posed a serious threat to PBKS’ bowling attack, completing his first fifty of the season in just 29 balls at a strike rate of 179.31. Mhatre and Gaikwad formed a crucial 96-run stand for the second wicket before the CSK’s skipper's (28) dismissal at 110/1. Thereafter, Ayush Mhatre was looking to carry on Chennai Super Kings’ innings before his brilliant stay at the crease came to an end after he was dismissed at 123/3.
