The Copa America 2021 has seemingly got interesting following the conclusion of Matchday 6. A couple of matches took place that produced mixed results, involving top sides like Uruguay, Chile and Argentina, as we look at it in this round-up.

Uruguay gets a taste of Chile
In the most anticipated game of the matchday, record 15-time champion Uruguay was up against former two-time champ Chile at the Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba. The tie turned out to be interesting, with as many as ten attempts being made in the opening half, while Eduardo Vargas Chile put the side ahead in the 26th minute, as it led at half-time.

In the following half, things were even intense, as 14 chances were created. However, it was an unfortunate own goal from Arturo Vidalin the 66th that allowed Uruguay to bounce back, as the latter barely survived a heartbreaking loss. Thus, while Chile has risen to second, Uruguay stays fourth.

Stat: It was Vargas's 14th goal in the tournament to date, while he has become the joint fifth-most goal-scorer along with Paolo Guerrero, besides being three less than Zizinho and Norberto Méndez (17).

Argentina barely makes it past Paraguay
In the second game of the matchday, Argentina was up against minnow Paraguay at the Estádio Nacional de Brasília. While Argentina was indeed a favourite to win this, it did not come easy and had to toil.

The opening half was surprisingly intense right from the start, as both teams hardly produced any attack. However, while Alejandro Gomez put Argentina ahead in the tenth minute, Lionel Messi came close to double it at the stroke of half-time, as Argentina lead 1-0.

Nevertheless, there were hardly any promising chances from either in the second half, as Gomez's sole strike turned out to be the winner. As a result, Argentina continues to top the group table, while Paraguay remains third.
