Bengaluru FC Soccer Shield to start on January 15; 80 schools to vie for title
This is the second edition of the tourney and even girls can take part in the competition in Under-8, U-10 and U-12 categories. The winners can also secure a scholarship to train in Bengaluru FC soccer schools
Bengaluru: More than 1,000 players from over 80 schools in Bengaluru will take part in the second Boost Bengaluru FC Soccer Shield inter-school tournament which is all set to begin on January 15.
This is the second edition of the tournament. The soccer shield will have matches happening in four categories – Under-8, Under-10, Under-12 and Under-14.
This year even girls can take part in the competition in U-8, U-10 and U-12 sections.
The aim of the tourney is to develop football at grassroots level. The achievers in this tourney will win a fully-funded high performance camp at Inspire Institute Sport located in Ballari that also houses Bengaluru FC Residential Academy.
In addition to this, the winners can also secure a scholarship to train in Bengaluru FC soccer schools. They can also win a place in the Bengaluru FC B team.
Thirteen-year-old Gautam Rajesh, midfielder, of DPS East is one of the achievers of the School Shield tourney. He was a member of the Karnataka Under-14 squad at the 2018 Sub Junior Nationals.
As Bengaluru FC is all set to re-activate partnership with ‘Play the Pros’ property, selected players will stand a chance to play and learn from the likes of Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Udanta Singh and others.
Last year, the first edition of the tourney started on January 23 at the Bangalore Football Stadium. The school shield saw the participation of 60 teams in U-10, U-12 and U-14 categories.
