Srikanth to take on reigning Olympic champion at quarters today

After PV Sindhu's magnificent show at the Rio 2016, its fellow Hyderabadi, Kidambi Srikanth's turn to shine at the games. Srikanth will face the reigning champion Lin Dan in the quarter-final of the men's singles event on Wednesday.

Sindhu went past World No. 2 Yihan Wang in straight games, 22-20, 21-19 to enter the semi-final and is now just a win away from ensuring India its first medal.

After 11 days at Rio, India is yet to open its account in the medals table. Srikanth and Sindhu with their performances so far  have kept India's hopes alive.

Since Sindhu conquered a higher-ranked opponent, Srikanth will be under pressure to perform equally well when he takes on the World No. 3 in the quarters.

Meanwhile, Indian National Badminton Coach, P Gopichand is confident that the World No. 11 will certainly give his best.

" It's going to be a tough match and he (Srikanth) will give his best. Let's see how it goes. All past records have no significance. It's about keeping the momentum," he said after Sindhu's win over Wang.

One of the best moments of Srikanth's career involved the Chinese badminton icon, when the former famously defeated his opponent two years ago in the final of Chinese Open.

However, Gopichand hopes the victory does not cloud Srikanth's judgement because Dan has an incredible record at the games in the past. He has won the singles event in the previous two editions of the games.
