Bengaluru: Police are on the hunt for a woman who allegedly snuck ganja hidden in two boxes which she claimed contained biryani for her husband in jail.

Nagaraj was arrested by Varthur Police as the prime accused in the murder of rowdy Challa alias Challa Kumar. He is lodged in Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara.

Initially, Nagaraj was close friends with Challa alias Challa Kumar but later became his rival. To track Challa’s movements, Nagaraj successfully installed a GPS tracker in a car that Challa used. On the night of May 17 last year, Nagaraj tracked Challa’s car and obtained details of his whereabouts. Nagaraj and his gang then intercepted Challa near Varthur and hacked him to death.

On May 8, Nagaraj’s wife, K Pavitra succeeded in obtaining permission to visit Nagaraj in jail. She met him at around 5:15pm and handed over a bag which contained two tiffin boxes to her husband. She left the premises soon after delivering the bag. The jail staff checked the bag thoroughly before Nagaraj went back to his cell. They found around 450 grams of ganja in the boxes. Pavitra had kept the ganja at the bottom of the box and had covered it by keeping plates filled with biryani over it.

A complaint was filed by the jail superintendent. The Parappana Agrahara police have registered a case against Nagaraj and his wife Pavitra.

The police have formed a team to trace the source of the ganja and also to arrest Nagaraj’s wife Pavitra. They police are trying to ascertain whether the ganja was meant for selling inside the jail or for Nagaraj’s personal use. Officials are also probing the possibility of Pavitra obtaining permission into the prison by offering the jail staff favours.
