Soon, Bengaluru to have smart bus stops; 5 facilities that will digitise bus shelters
In PPP model, BMTC is all set to upgrade selected bus stops as smart bus shelters. Here is how the bus shelters will be transformed in Bengaluru
FollowBengaluru: Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will get new smart bus stops in selected parts the city. Here are five facts that will transform these bus stops.
Smart bus shelters will come up at Vidhana Soudha, Vittal Mallya Road, Basava Circle on Chalukya Road, Residency Road, St Marks Road near Bowring Club, Indiranagar 100 feet road, Koramangala 1st block, HSR layout near Nandini Booth, Cunningham Road, Mount Carmel College Road and Malleshwaram Circle near KC General Hospital.
The BMTC has joined hands with private players and is building smart bus stops in various parts of Bengaluru under Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
Here are five facilities the smart bus stops will offer.
LED screen
A 25x5 LED screen will be installed at the bus stop. It is not clear yet, if the screens will show the bus arrival and departure timings or advertisements will be displayed.
Bollards
Bollards are short posts or a thick post limiting speed of the vehicles approaching in the area. The Bollards also will have clear instructions. It is yet to be known what kind of instructions will be posted on the Bollards placed in smart bus stops.
Steel seats
These smart bus stops will have steel seats that will be stronger than the existing ones and will last long.
Dustbins
These bus stops will also have dustbins, helping in keeping the premises clean. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will ensure that the dustbins are cleaned regularly.
Ramp
All smart bus stops will have ramps to make it easy for the physically challenged to get into and out of the bus stop conveniently. So far this is the first initiative to make the bus shelters friendly to all.
The first smart bus shelter will come up in front of the Vidhana Soudha. The work is being undertaken under TenderSure project.
