Bengaluru: Kannada actor-producer Rakshit Shetty has joined a list of celebrities from across the country to create awareness about fake news. Along with him are three other south Indian film actors who have joined the campaign.

Facebook has partnered with some well-known faces to fight the menace of fake news and create awareness among people. The video that has been released as a part of the campaign has Malayalam film actors Mohanlal and Manju Warrier, Tamil film actor Vijay Sethupathi and Kannada actor-producer Rakshit Shetty from the south Indian film industry.

Rakshit Shetty shared the video online with the following message: Together, we can reduce fake news, rumor and other activities meant to cause harm. Happy to be part of Facebook's initiative to speak against misinformation and the ways to stop the spread of rumours and fake news on social media.

In the video, the celebrities state how even they fall into the trap of fake news on their mobile phones.

The video has been divided into three sections -- Spot news that might be fake, verify with other sources and help stop the spread.

The actors ask the viewers to check for signs in the news that give away the fact that it is fake. They say that forwarded messages with no source or evidence are signs that the news might be fake.

In the video, the actors advise viewers to verify facts by searching online or to check the source of the story. In case of further doubts, they ask the viewers to ask fact-checkers.

The actors in the video also ask people to check the authenticity of the news before sharing it, even if it is shared by friends.
