Illegal power connection: BESCOM, BBMP, KPTCL disconnect power supply to 114 buildings in Bengaluru

Illegal power connection: BESCOM, BBMP, KPTCL disconnect power supply to 114 buildings in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: BESCOM, BBMP and KPTCL has decided to disconnect power supply to 114 under construction buildings in Bengaluru. The decision was taken as these buildings were found to be drawing power illegally following a survey conducted by the three power supply authorities.

These buildings were receiving power supply through a high-tension cable that was drawn from a transformer, illegally. Buildings with faulty power supply were identified in Malleshwaram, Jalahalli, Hebbala, Peenya, Jayanagar, Koramangala, HSR Layout, Rajajinagar, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Kengeri, Indiranagar, Shivajinagar, Whitefield and areas around Vidhana Soudha.

Seven people have been electrocuted in the last four months in Bengaluru. A meeting regarding identify illegal power connections was held on May 29 after 21-year-old Ramesh was electrocuted on May 23.

BESCOM has decided to lay cables underground henceforth.

Incidents of electrocution are on the rise in BESCOM and ESCOM limits. A meeting of Electricity Regulatory Authority has been convened on June 3 to bring preventive measures into effect
