Concession comes at a price: Bengaluru students to pay more for bus passes
Students in Bengaluru will have to pay more for bus concession passes. The SC/ST students have to pay only the processing fee in order to receive the pass.
Bengaluru: Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has increased the rates of student concession passes on Thursday. The move might impact more than three lakh students in the city.
Reports state that the BMTC has increased the cost for a new smartcard. They have increased the price by Rs 100 for high school students; from Rs 600 to Rs 700 for high school girl students and from Rs 800 to Rs 900 for high school boys. The smartcard price for Pre-University (PU) students has gone up from Rs 1,100 to Rs 1,250, from Rs 1,300 to Rs 1,460 for college students and from Rs 1,350 to Rs 1,600 for professional college students. The price has increased from Rs 1,880 to Rs 2,120 for technical students and from Rs 1,680 to Rs 1,880 for evening PhD students.
The transport unit has increased the renewal fee for old smartcards also. For high school girls, the price has increased from Rs 770 to Rs 870, from Rs 1,070 to Rs 1,220 for PU students, for college students from Rs 1,270 to Rs 1,430 and for professional college students from Rs 1,320 to Rs 1,570. The price has risen from Rs 1,850 to Rs 2,090 for technical students and from Rs 1,650 to Rs 1850 for evening PhD students.
The SC/ST students need to pay only the processing fee in order to receive the bus concession pass. They need to pay Rs 200 for new cards and Rs 170 to renew the existing ones.
BMTC officials said that the students can apply for passes on www.mybmtc.com.
The transport unit has also opened 92 pass counters at 26 traffic transit management centres and bus stations.
