Bengaluru: A 27-year-old man killed his daughter as he was upset about having a baby girl. The accused is identified as Manjunath, a daily wage worker. He hails from Karnataka's Chikmagalur. The one-and-a-half-month-old baby girl Niharika was killed on Tuesday.

The crime occurred when the accused Manjunath's wife was busy in household work. Manjunath strangled his baby with bare hands and later went to sleep.

When the kid's mother Supreetha found the infant unconscious with blood oozing out of her nose, she immediately rushed to the nearby hospital with her child.

The medical reports suggested the baby died due to asphyxiation and suggested to register a police case as they suspected mystery in the death. The wife with other family members registered a complaint in the police station. Upon investigation, the cops found Manjunath guilty.

Police said to media, Manjunath wished to have a son and he confessed to killing the girl child based on the advice of an astrologer, who asked him to sacrifice the baby for good fortune to follow.

Similarly, on September 20, a Bengaluru-based woman allegedly killed her three-year-old daughter simply because she did not want a girl child. 29-year-old Priya has been accused of torturing her baby to death.

The incident occurred in Bengaluru's DG Halli. It was Priya's neighbour, who alerted the police. Priya also has a six-year-old son. She's five months pregnant too. Priya has separated from her husband Manjunath.
