Bengaluru: Anvitha S, an 18-month-old girl died after falling from the first floor of Balaji Gents PG, a paying guest accommodation in Nallurhalli near Whitefield. The girl was the daughter of Geetha, a maid who worked in the building and Shiva Kumar, a labourer from Raichur.

The toddler fell from a sliding window that was left open.

On May 6, Geetha had left her daughter on the ground floor of the building and proceeded to clean the first floor. The toddler, however, followed her mother and climbed the steps to reach the first floor. The child then crawled to the window that had been left open and peeped through it but fell soon thereafter.

She was rushed to hospital but did not survive. A case of negligence has been filed against the PG owner.

This is not the first gruesome incident of the kind that has been witnessed in 2019.

On January 27, 2019, an 18-month-old girl fell from an escalator and died at the Srirampura Metro station in Bengaluru. The child fell from a height of 50 feet and succumbed to the grievous head injuries she suffered.

The child had slipped from grandfather’s arms and fell through a gap next to the escalator onto Mahakavi Kuvempu Road.
