It says politics is half luck, but Oommen Chandy who was fortunate enough to inaugurate the trial run of Kerala's first metro rail ran out of luck by the time the project became a reality. He once again missed the metro ride as his fellow followers were determined to make it a major event. He got to get to the train only on a third attempt.

The Congress leadership in Kerala organised a metro ride for former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy after LDF government ignored him during inaugural function.

However, he missed the first train due to the rush from his own men and had to wait for 10 minutes to get into next one.

Kochi Metro was the pet project of Oommen Chandy, and it was during his tenure as Chief Minister that the project took off. However, the government did not even consider his name while preparing the list of dignitaries. CPM veteran and former Chief Minister V S Achutanandan too was not among the list of dignitaries who attended inaugural function.

However, the Congress leadership decided to organise a special ride for Chandy and named it Janakeeya Metro Yatra.

Congress leaders including Chennithala and KPCC president M M Hassan reached Aluva station along with Oommen Chandy and entered the station followed by a large number of party workers.

Though Metro officials tried to control the situation, Chandy could not board the first train amid the chaos created by his followers. However, he waited for ten more minutes and boarded next train.

Party followers also arranged a grant welcome to their leader at Palarivattom station, where the ride ended.
