The 10-year-old was found hanging in her house in Kundara on January 15. Though the police had stated it was a suicide, there were telltale signs that there was more to it.

Now the post-mortem report, which confirms the girl had been severely and repeatedly abused, has surfaced. It has been revealed that her body bore as many as 22 injuries, including on her private parts.

The incident throws light on yet another case of the state police's laxity and inaction.

The post-mortem report had reached the Kundara and the Kollam police officers a day after the girl was found dead but they refused to take any action.

The victim's father said he was sure the death wasn't suicide. He revealed he had gone to the police station several times but was sent back.

Kundara circle inspector R Sabu said the accused would be arrested in due time. There were problems in questioning the family but the investigation has been foolproof, he added.
