Efforts must be taken to oppose deliberate attempts to portray Yoga as part of any religion, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

"It is just another form of exercise. Attempts to spread misinterpretations on yoga must be spoiled," he said while addressing a gathering at Thiruvananthapuram Central Stadium as part of International Yoga Day observance.
The state government is also planning to introduce yoga as part of school curriculum.
Meanwhile, Yoga Association of Kerala, founded in association with the CPM is mulling to introduce a new form of martial art, a mix of yoga and Kalarippayattu. Yoga is not a martial art, but it will help strengthen Kalaripayattu, says E Rajeev, state secretary of Yoga Association. They are also trying to get a patent for the new martial art form.
The Association had been successful in including yoga as a sports item. Championships will be held in the district, state and national level and winners will get grace mark.
Kerala is also likely to get the fund from Ministry of Ayush for yoga training.
