godman Bobbiting case trial Court denies bail lie detector test woman

A trial court has denied bail to a Kerala godman Sreehari aka Swami Gangeshananda, who was bobbitised by a young woman allegedly during a rape attempt at her house in Thiruvananthapuram last month.

The court on Tuesday also agreed to a plea by the police, demanding a polygraph test on the "victim". The trial court asked the woman to appear before it or through her counsel on June 26 to state if she was ready for the lie detector test.

The new developments come just days after the police asked the trial court to order a brain mapping, lie detector test and a detailed medical check-up of the woman, who had alleged that the police probe was not a fair one and only a CBI probe would reveal the truth.

The controversial case, which grabbed national headlines, has undergone a few twists and turns since the incident took place in the capital on May 18.

The woman had initially told the police that she cut off the godman's genitals when he made sexual advances towards her. She also alleged that Sreehari had been misbehaving with her ever since she was minor. She retracted her statement last week, claiming the godman never misbehaved with her and that she was forced to implicate him in the case.

Meanwhile, DGP TP Senkumar on Monday ordered to hand over the case to the Crime Branch. The city police have been investigating the case so far.

In a related development, the woman's boyfriend Ayyappadas filed a habeas corpus petition in the Kerala High Court on Monday, stating the woman is being illegally confined in a house near Nedumangad and that a clear picture would emerge when she is set free.
