The ugly side of some of Kerala's political activists was in full view at a school in the capital city on Tuesday when CPM and Congress workers clashed in front of the children for most trivial of things - who should deliver the welcome address.

The untoward and unfortunate incident happened during an event at the government higher secondary school in Aryanad where the inauguration of a new building, which was built using the funds from the late Congress leader G Karthikeyan, was scheduled.
The exchange of blows took place in front of ports minister Kadannappally Ramachandran and Aruvikkara MLA and Karthikeyan's son KS Sabarinadhan.
The friction started when Aryanad panchayat president and Congress leader Shameela Beegum stood up to give the welcome speech. CPM workers protested and barged into the stage, demanding that district panchayat member Biju Mohan should deliver the address according to protocol, as the school comes under the district panchayat.
Tensions rose during the animated arguments between activists of the two rival factions. A minor scuffle ensued, which soon turned into a full-blooded brawl with chairs hurled at each other. Several party workers from both sides suffered injuries in the clash.
Sabarinadhan later took to Facebook to apologise to the school's students and teachers, who had to witness the unruly scenes at their school.
