The Congress government is not responding to the problems of farmers and the meagre farm loan waiver is actually like ‘alms’ by the state government, said BJP State President BS Yeddyurappa criticising the state farm loans, reports Kannada Prabha.

Speaking at the inauguration of the BJP Raitha Morcha executive meeting at the BJP office in the City, Yeddyurappa said Chief Minister has said that drought relief funds have not reached the State from the Centre. Although the funds have been released by the Centre, the State has not made good use of it. The farmers are committing suicide due to rising debts and drought but the State has failed in ensuring their welfare, said Yeddyurappa.

The farm produces are not getting good rates in Karnataka and the farmer community is in great distress. The government instead of responding to their plight has ignored them. The middlemen in the market are also causing several problems to farmers. The people of the State are fed up with the ways of the government. The legislators and ministers are looting the public, he accused.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is implementing several projects for the welfare of the farming community. For the benefit of farmers, he is preparing to implement river interlinking project. Programmes are also planned to double the farm produce and to get appropriate rates for them in the market. He called upon the workers to take Modi’s programmes to the people.
