Will giving false address during BBMP elections stop Timmapuras aspirations to ministership

RB Timmapura, aspirant of minister’s post and seven others provided false address during BBMP elections, confirmed BBMP records. BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad provided a report to poll officer Anil Kumar Jha in this regard. This report has been taken seriously by Jha and he is getting ready to investigate and take action, reported Kannada Prabha.

Meanwhile, Speaker DH Shankaramurthy has said that he would summon all 8 and inquire about it.  Since such a complaint has not been cited at any legislatures in the country, the decision he takes will be a historical one, he said.

In this development, Timmapura’s aspirations to become a minister may take a beating, say sources. In case he misses this opportunity, Motamma or MP Narendraswamy may be given the ministry.

Apart from RB Timmapura, other legislators who have recorded Bengaluru as their address of residence are Congress members Allam Veerabhadrappa of Bellary, MD Lakshminarayana of Turuvekere, NS Bhosaraj of Raichuru, M Ravi of Ramanagara, G Raghu Achar of Chitradurga, JD(S) members Appaji Gowda of Mandya, CR Manohar of Kolar. All these have registered their address of residence as Bengaluru in the voters’ list.  However, during claiming various allowances and facilities they have recorded their district addresses. Hence it is accounted as wrong address proof to Election Commission, which is a crime.

All these members had filled up Form 16 on 2016 Aug 25 to become eligible to be included in the voters’ list in the BBMP jurisdiction. They have also not provided the details of the family members and filled up only their details. The report says that the no objection process has not been carried out while submitting Form 16 to enroll in voters’ list. All these members gave their address of residence as Bengaluru with the purpose of voting in the Mayoral election. But they continue to claim allowances as residents of their respective districts.

Anil Kumar Jha, Chief Polling Officer, said they had sought a report from BBMP and it has been submitted.  After inspecting the report they would take necessary action and if necessary would refer the case to Central Commission also. However, BBMP Election Officer Sharada said that apart from certain information not provided there is nothing wrong in the declaration. It is not considered a major mistake.
