Who from State will join Modis cabinet

In the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi expanding, reshuffling his Cabinet, there are speculations that Karnataka and Gujarat may feature prominently while considering posts. Some TV channels had telecast that D V Sadananda Gowda and seven new ministers may be inducted, reported Kannada Prabha.

Though rumours are afloat that Karnataka may get a preference as the elections are approaching, the State BJP leaders are clueless as to who will be inducted into the Cabinet from Karnataka.  There are possibilities of getting two to three positions with State MPs and Veerashaiva Lingayat and Backward MPs getting a preference. Major names that are heard are Suresh Angadi, Shivakumar Udasi, Sriramulu, PC Mohan, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Bhagavantha Khuba and Shobha Karandlaje. It is uncertain if D V Sadananda Gowda will continue as a minister or will be sent back to State politics. If caste is the main concern then one from Veerashaiva-Lingayat community and one from backward community will be chosen.

However, since Yeddyurappa from Veerashaiva Lingayat community has already been declared as the chief ministerial candidate, debates are on if choosing him as a union minister will be of any use. The argument that in the current dispute of Veerashaiva Lingayat it is better to make one from that community a minister.

The other names considered are Suresh Angadi and Shivakumar Udasi. A surprise addition is Bhagavantha Khuba.  Sriramulu has been considered from the SC quota but it is not definite if he can work to the expectations of Modi. Coming from Valmiki community is his strong point. There are also speculations that he may be given a ticket for next Vidhana Sabha election.

PC Mohan from Kammavari community is under consideration he may get the seat only if Sadananda Gowda is dropped.

In the coastal region where Congress and BJP have locked horns Nalin Kumar Kateel and Shobha Karandlaje are strong contenders. One of the 2 may be preferred and Shobha may be preferred as a woman minister and also her experience as a minister may also tip the scale towards her. Also considering the dissent from State BJP that is rising against her, getting her out of State politics would be a better idea, it is said.

If Shobha is considered, then to continue or not Sadananda Gowda from the same Vokkaliga community will also pose a problem. The old Mysuru region community have accepted Sadananda Gowda as one among them but not Shobha Karandlaje, hence may be a bad move. Sources also say talks are on to get Sadananda Gowda to head the State Campaign Committee head.
