Whatever name, accord Constitutional status, say Lingayat leaders

Whatever name accord Constitutional status

Veerashaiva or Lingayat whatever name that is legal consider that and accord independent religion status, will be the final plea to the Central Government by the leaders of both factions. A meeting will be held on October 12 Tuesday to take a final call in this regard, reported Kannada Prabha.

A meeting of the leaders of both Veerashaiva and Lingayat was held at Shamanuru Shivashankarappa’s residence in the City.  It was agreed upon that both the factions must strive for a new religion status and leave the responsibility of choosing the name to the Central Government.  

The final decision will be arrived at on October 12 at the meet, say sources. The leaders decided that it was not appropriate for the religion to divide and fight among themselves. Since the purpose of both the factions to get independent religion tag, the leaders decided that let the Centre decide if it should be Veerashaiva or Lingayat and they should be committed to the decision.

Minister Eshwara Khandre was conspicuous absent. Basavaraja Horatti’s wife being sick, he was absent. On October 11 the Assembly Sessions will be held. The next day will be the meeting. Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, Minister M B Patil said all confusions will be resolved soon and amicably too. Several leaders were present at the meeting.
