Thousands of citizens join with United Bengaluru to say Hosa Zoning Beda

Bengaluru has been loud and clear about its opposition to he recent draft notification issued by the urban development department on new zoning regulations. Now hundreds of city residents along with #UnitedBengaluru have submitted a petition to the BDA Director.

On Friday, the #UnitedBengaluru handed over 1000 signed objection letters the Director, Town & Country Planning Department, urging him nOT to act on the new draft rules.

The citizens have requested the government to follow a more rational and legal process to change issues relating to Master Plan. “The proposed amendment will worsen the quality of life of every Bengalurean. Rampant commercialization makes residential neighbourhoods unsafe especially for our elderly and children. When the city is already choking with illegal commercial establishments in roads less 40ft roads, the government instead of enforcing the norms has chosen to sacrifice citizen interests and placate the real estate and trade lobby," Namma Bengaluru Foundation CEO, Sridhar Pabbisetty

"Today's representation by United Bengaluru with over 300 RWA's and close to 1000 signatories shows the growing anger of law abiding Bengaluru residents. It's time for all residents to speak up and not allow the vested interests to destroy our neighbourhoods and our city,” Pabbisetty added.

A total of 337 Resident Welfare Association members collected over 1000 signed petition, which was submitted to the government. “I am truly amazed at the widespread support we are seeing in opposing these regulations. Huge number of objections are being filed. I can only hope that the administration takes note of these and our direct petitions to our elected representatives and stops this misadventure. I hope they do not push us to next step of outright protests, legal interventions and other measures,” said Vijayan Menon of Citizens Action Forum.
