These Anganwadi kids in Mangaluru are the luckiest in the state

Unable to see children staying away from Anganwadi due to scorching heat, the Dakshina Kananda Zilla Panchayat has come out with a novel idea to bring them back to anganwadis.

The ZP has decided to install air conditioners in at least 10 anganwadis with the help of a bank under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This is for the first time that a ZP in the state has come forward to install AC in anganwadis. About 10 anganwadis have been chosen from Mangaluru and Bantwal taluks to have the air conditioners, reports Prajavani.

In fact, this year the temperature was high in Mangaluru and Bantwal taluks when compared to Sullia, Puttur or Belthangadi taluks of Mangaluru district. So much so that children in these areas refuse to come to anganwadi as they could not sit through the day. This drastically affected their attendance worrying the ZP members. Concerned, the ZP decided to have ACs installed in these anganwadis. The ZP has spent Rs 30,000 for each school with the help of Vijaya Bank's CSR funds, reports Prajavani.

Anganwadis are the primary learning centre for children of economic backward communities, especially. When the anganwadis in the state are facing the threat of closure for lack of children due to various reasons, such an initiative by the Mangaluru ZP should serve as an inspiration to others.
