'Supreme' trouble could be ahead for BSY

FollowTough days may be ahead for BJP State president BS Yeddyurappa as the Supreme Court has agreed to hear denotification cases filed against him. The court was responding to a special leave petition filed by the State government challenging the High Court of Karnataka order quashing the 15 denotification cases.
Justices AK Sikri and Ashok Bhushan took up the appeal filed by advocate Joseph Aristotle, appearing for the State government and said that the court will hear the arguments from third week of September, reports Prajavani.
The state government had also appealed to the Supreme Court to review whether the High Court was authorised to quash the FIRs lodged under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
It may be recalled here that Yeddyurappa had allegedly issued 15 denotification orders and based on the CAG report, the Lokayukta had filed a case against the former chief minister, reports Prajavani. But the High Court had quashed the cases stating that Lokyukta police had no power to file case based on the CAG report. However, challenging this, the State government had moved the Supreme Court in January 2016.
It may be recalled here that the denotification came to haunt after two advocates Sirajin Bhasha and KN Balaraj filed five cases of denotification against Yeddyurappa. Cases have been filed against his sons and son-in-law. Then Governor HR Bhardwaj issued an order to prosecute Yeddyurappa in five cases of alleged illegal denotification of land. The former chief minister also had to face jail for 25 days in October 2011 at Parappana Agrahara.
