Veterans, students celebrate World Environment Day with sapling drive

On occasion of World Environment Day on 5th June 2017, The 'Flags Of Honour' foundation organised a 'sapling' drive, planting some 100 saplings in the National Military Memorial, here in Bengaluru. 

A crowd that included students and military veterans joined Air Commodore M. K. Chandrasekhar (Retd) to plant the saplings, as a green tribute to the planet. 

'Flags of Honour' was created in 2009 to support and promote the causes of the armed forces, including support for the families of martyrs and initiatives to like the sapling drive, which hopes to better society. 

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the need for nurturing a better planet on World Environment Day. He also saluted those working towards protecting the environment. Modi said this year's theme of 'connecting people to nature' was nothing but a way "getting connected with ourselves".

"World Environment Day is the right time to reaffirm our commitment to protecting our environment and nurturing a better planet," he tweeted. "We salute the will & determination of all those individuals & organisations working towards protecting the environment," he added in another tweet.
