State Government to pass an ordinance to continue reservation in promotions

The State Cabinet has agreed to pass an ordinance to continue the reservation for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe in promotion. Law Minister TB Jayachandra spoke to mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting on Monday that it has been agreed to pass an ordinance by making appropriate changes in the law to continue the reservation for SC and ST in promotions, reports Kannada Prabha.

The law has been suitably modified to safeguard the interests of the SC and ST by neither reverting the promotion already announced nor hindering future promotions. The State government has decided to issue an ordinance in this regard and it will be sent to the Governor for consideration. The promotions already declared cannot be retrieved. Future appointments and promotions have to be taken care of to see no injustice is vetted to SC and ST.  This is in the context of the Supreme Court instructing on last Feb 9 that reservation in promotion deprives hundreds of employees and it should be set right. The SC had expressed its objections to the fact that the State government had failed to submit the evaluation norms of backwardness and efficiency.  A revised service seniority was to be prepared and within three months and the injustice was to be set right. The SC had also instructed that the state to implemented the instructions by Aug 9. Meanwhile, the State government had submitted an application to the SC and it has not come up for inquiry. Hence, the State government resorted to passing an ordinance to resolve the issue within time.
