FollowPot-bellied police personnel are an eye-sore to the police department. And majority of them blame their stressful erratic lifestyle for that. But how long could they complain? A superintendent of police in Chikmagaluru devised a plan to lure his police personnel to reduce their waist line and what was the catch? Postings in their preferred choice of place!
Young Superintendent of Police Annamalai who is also known as 'Singam' made this offer to ASIs, constables, head constables on January 13, 2017. He told them that they would be transferred to their choice of place if they reduce at least 5 kg. Not just that there were surprise prizes too.
It's a known fact that police personnel seldom get their choice of place while being transferred. While many spend lots of money or knock on the doors of ministers to get a recommendation letters. But for police personnel in Chikmagaluru this offer was indeed tough as they were used to a particular lifestyle. But 34 police personnel signed up for the offer and vowed to reduce their waistline. Police personnel took to jogging and cycling on Chikmagaluru roads. Many of them reportedly quit certain foods that they were very fond of. But only 16 could meet the challenge in the stipulated time.
On the counselling day for their transfer - on June 7 - weight of all the 34 police personnel was checked and only 16 had managed to cut the extra flab. SP Annamalai kept his word. The 16 police personnel got a posting in the place of their choice and also won surprise prizes from their senior officer. Impressed by Annamalai's initiative, many police stations are reportedly adopting his plan.
