Siddaramaiah government finally awards Rs 25 lakh each to cricketers Veda and Rajeshwari

The Congress government in the State has announced that it will hand over Rs 25 lakh each to women cricketers, Veda Krishnamurthy and Rajeshwari Gayakwad - who hail from Karnataka - for their wonderful performance in the ICC Women's World Cup. Minister for Sports and Youth Services Pramod Madhwaraj announced the awards in Udupi on Saturday.

Veda Krishnamurty who hails from Kadur in Chikmagaluru district is a right-handed batswoman while bowler, Rajeshwari Gayakwad is a native of Vijayapura district. In fact, the government's delay to recognise the cricketers has come under much flak. For, the Punjab government has promised Harmanpreet Kaur the post of DSP and Telangana state announced Rs one crore cash and a plot to Mithali Raj. Yet, the Congress government took its own time to reward its two players. The cash prize will be awarded to the players at a felicitation function to be arranged shortly, it is reported.

Meanwhile,  Vijayapura City Slum Development Committee has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urging for a government's post to Rajeshwari Gayakwad.
