Revanna, Timmapura and Geetha Mahadeva Prasad to be sworn in today

FollowAfter all the speculations, the three names that made it to the confirmed list of new ministers are H M Revanna, R B Timmapura and Geetha Mahadeva Prasad. The swearing in ceremony for the final expansion of Siddaramaiah’s Cabinet will be held today at 5 pm, making it a full house, reported Kannada Prabha.
Siddaramaiah broke his rule of not giving minister’s post to a first time legislator and selected Geetha Mahadeva Prasad under the Lingayat quota. With this the much anticipated K Shadakshari of Tiptur has missed the bus.
The reason for opting for Geetha Mahadeva Prasad is said to be Siddaramaiah’s close friendship with Geetha’s husband late Mahadeva Prasad and also the role Geetha would play in getting the Lingayat votes in the old Mysuru region. It is also said that a mutt seer from the old Mysruru region influenced Siddaramaiah to select Geetha Mahadeva Prasad.
The extended speculations say that the Chief Minister intends to get his son Yathindra to contest from Varuna and Minister Mahadevappa is planning to get his son Sunil Bose to contest from old Mysuru region. The Lingayat votes are a deciding factor for both of them to win. It is said that the Lingayat seer has assured votes in favour of selecting Geetha Mahadeva Prasad. Hence Geetha was opted instead of K Shadakshari in the last minute.
Siddaramaiah has set aside the pressure of both left Hand and Right Hand and also the influence of his close friend Ibrahim and preferred to follow the High Command’s directions and drop both Motamma and Narendraswamy. Siddaramaiah has also overlooked the allegation that R B Timmapura had given wrong address of residence in the poll enrolment during Mayoral election. He has defended his choice and said the BBMP report against Timmapura is not a big hurdle to make him a minister.
H M Revanna from Kuruba quota has been steady from the beginning. His efforts to get a berth in the cabinet as minister has finally paid off. What portfolio he is getting will depend on who gets Home portfolio.
Geetha Mahadeva Prasad may get the cooperative ministry which was held by her husband. R B Timmapura may get Excise. If Ramanath Rai gets Home then Timmapura will get Forest and if Ramalinga Reddy gets Home then Timmapura will get Transport Ministry.
Siddaramaiah has already held talks with both Ramanath Rai and Ramalinga Reddy. Ramanatha Rai is preferred with a view to strengthen the Congress hold in Dakshina Kannada. However, there are also chances of BJP protesting strongly against him. Hence Ramalinga Reddy may be preferred. M R Seetharam is also trying to get Home Ministry but he may not get it. Currently Ramanath Rai’s name is in the forefront, sources said.
