About 20 women who underwent Vasectomy were made to sleep on the floor soon after the operation at Nelamanagala Taluk Hospital.

The hospital gave a clarification that there was a lack of space as a new ICU section was being constructed in the hospital and a section of office was non-operative. The mass vasectomy is conducted in the second week of every month in the Nelamangala Taluk Hospital.
Speaking to Suvarna News, Mallikarjun, Taluk Administrative Medical officer has told that the patient comes to the hospital in the morning, after the necessary tests, she is operated upon and can go home after four hours of rest. This is not a major surgery. It is a minor surgery where no stitches are put. This operation does not cause them any trouble.
“This operation is conducted every second week in this hospital, but according to the government order, the ICU section being constructed newly. According to records, this hospital has the capacity to have 100 beds. But in reality, the hospital can hold only 40 beds,” he said.
“Due to the repair work, there is no place to accommodate the patients on beds. But as vasectomy is performed under the national programme, we were directed not to stop it. Every week we perform the operation on 30 to 40 patients. But this week due to place constraint only 20 operations were performed,” he added.
We had put bead spreads and given them a clean and safe place to rest. Now all the patients would have gone home. The hospital has never made its patients sleep on the floor. Only because of the construction work in the ICU section, this arrangement was made, he said.
But the question remains that why to take up such a work when they cannot make proper arrangements. There are all chances of patients getting infected when put on the floor.
Recently, a pregnant woman died of an infection in the Bellary Hospital. Thus, the hospitals have to be careful and should not patients’ health for granted.
