Park turned into toilet,temple and slum home in Bengaluru
- In last ten years, lush green lung BBMP park turned an eyesore.
- Officials failed to note the illegal structures coming up.
- In place of trees and pathway, toilets, temple, welding unit, sheds have come up.
- Officials and public representatives hand suspected in encroachment of park.

The stretch from Dairy Circle to Lakkasandra  was once a lush green space, but in the last one decade everything has turned to concretization.   Thanks to encroachment and apathy BBMP because of which, toilets, sheds and slum homes have come in the park area.     Â
M Z Ali, a resident said, "Many complaints to Assistant Executive Engineer  in the past  have not yielded any result. The six hundred meter area of BBMP park was slowly encroached. There is service station,steel fabrication unit, cow shed, toilet .The public representatives and BBMP officials are responsible for this mess." While this is one instance, there is a similar one in the cantonment area. The BBMP park on which lakhs of amount was spent for fencing and beautification by various plants is now a place for migrators to sleep and dry their clothes. Aamir, a native of Gujarat who is one among the migrator said, "our job is to bring different colorful gem like stones and make ornaments. We sell it on the streets, colleges and other places.".      Â
He further said that people who came before him were given place in slums to stay.    The place is filled with filth as these people defecate in open places sometimes in footpath and park. Despite several calls to Sarala Mahesh Babu, Lakkasandra corporator, she did not respond.
Assistant Executive Engineer, Sharieff Saab agreed that he had noticed temple, toilet sheds on road side between Dairy Circle to Chandrappa Nagar in Lakkasandra but he is not aware about any park.
"I have taken charge recently, hence I do not know anything about encroachment. I will get the files from head office and from horticulture department to which all the BBMP parks belong. If it is proved that the land was park, the land will be reclaimed," he said.
Environmentalist and park committee chairman lashed at BBMP for failing to protect its lung space."The parks are made on road side to arrest the dust particles and how come it did not notice when such structures were coming up," he said.
