Panchayat members can submit assets declaration on line

The State Election Commission has said that it is difficult to store hard copies of documents submitted by elected Gram Panchayat, Taluk Panchayath and Zilla Panchayat members regarding assets and liabilities. Hence the process of developing software to facilitate Panchayat members to submit details online is underway, reports Kannada Prabha.

The GP, TP and Zp elected members have to submit declaration of their assets and liabilities. There are over one lakh members and the State Election Commission had problem storing the documents. From past five years, the EC having a tough time deciding where to store more than 5 lakh documents. Hence, the Election Commission has requested the National Information Centre (NIC) to develop a software to facilitate online submission of the documents.

As per rules, the members have to submit the details within 3 months of getting elected and within April every year to Election Commission. The number of taluk panchayath members in State is 3865, zilla panchayath 1083 and gram panchayat members over 1 lakh. All of them have to compulsorily declare their assets and liabilities.

The Rural Development and Panchayath Raj Department has come forward to resolve the issue of submitting physical copies of assets and liabilities by the Panchayath members. The members can take the help of any Data Entry Operator they trust or PDO to submit the details online. The department is also facilitating members to get the document done outside and bring it in a pen drive and it will be uploaded.

The Election Commission has also released funds to facilitate creating a software for this purpose to NIC. Once the system comes into force, all members without any exception can submit the documents. Currently, there are many who have failed to submit the documents.
