Officials exploiting drought situation for personal gains will not have a easy death KS Eshwarappa

Leader of the Opposition KS Eshwarappa warned the government to waive off farm loan, immediately, without waiting for the elections, as the State is reeling under worst drought in 46 years in some districts. He warned that the BJP would resort to Vidhana Soudha Gherao on June 10 with 10 lakh farmers, led by BJP State president B S Yeddyurappa.

Eshwarappa cited a special report in Kannada Prabha about the worst drought in 46 years in some districts and taunted the government for not waking up still and termed it a “shame”. He also mentioned another special report by Kannada Prabha on fodder scam and cursed the officials who were exploiting the situation for personal gains. While everybody is praying for rains, these corrupt officials are hoping for more droughts. “They will not die easy” he cursed.

The people are suffering due to severe drought but the government has completely failed in implementing relief measures. The district in charge ministers have not visited even in 50 per cent cases. The Chief Minister has made 5 minutes inspection and limited to meetings at DCs’ offices.  The people are not even supplied drinking water, he alleged.

He cited the examples of other states that have waived farm loans like Maharashtra has waived Rs 30,000 crore, Uttar Pradesh Rs 36,359 crore, Punjab Rs 10 lakh.

He accused the Chief Minister of dilly-dallying stating he would waive farm loan only if the Union Government did.  Punjab has done it with a Congress government. Even if the present government waives the farm loan, the burden will fall on the next government which he was sure would be BJP.

He cautioned the government that the BJP would take up protest on July 8,9 and 10th and on July 10th would Gherao Vidhana Soudha.

Congress members Ugrappa, Revanna Ivan DeSouza and Minister Seetharam, however, took Eshwarappa to task stating that the BJP government when in power had followed the same stand and it was Dr Manmohan Singh who had waived Rs 73,000 crore farm loan and let Modi also do the same, they urged.
