Now Kumaraswamy and his family is under IT scanner

Tough days seem to be ahead for JD(S) state president HD Kumaraswamy. After appearing before the Lokayukta Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the illegal mining case, he now has come under the IT scanner.

A complaint against him and his family members accusing them of money laundering has been filed with the Income Tax Department by Venkatesh Gowda, said to be a Congress member. The complainant alleged that the former chief minister and his family members were having benami properties worth Rs 20,000 crore in Karnataka, US and New Delhi.

The complainant alleges that the family is into real estate, film production, exports, textiles and international money laundering. Besides, many investments have been made in the name of his daughter-in-law, wife of HD Balakrishna Gowda. He is elder son of HD Deve Gowda. "How come an ordinary housewife having no income at all is able to buy properties worth Rs 1,000 crore in US and North India," says the complaint.

But, Kumaraswamy sees that it's a witch-hunt by BJP State president BS Yeddyurappa to tarnish his and his family's image. He squarely blamed Yeddyurappa for the complaint against him. He said that the complaint was prepared at the BJP office as the complainant Venkatesh Gowda was a KJP member. He had contested from Rajarajeshwari Nagar from KJP in 2013, he said.

"Although, the complainant claims that he is a Congress member, ministers Parameshwar and Dinesh Gundurao has clearly stated that there was no one by that name in the party. This clearly establishes, who is behind the complaint," Kumaraswamy rued.
