The Karnataka Students Parents Awareness Forum staged a protest in front of Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanvir Sait’s residence on Friday, demanding action against private schools for refusing admission to students under RTE. The students were allotted seats at 17 schools but were asked to pay donation of Rs 15,000. Parents were willing to pay but requested 4 installments.

Forum president Ravi addressed the gathering and said admissions in Krishna and Kiran Schools in Hegganahalli had refused to admit RTE students from June 14 for not paying the donation of Rs 15,000. The school administration have stated that they will not admit RTE students if the donation not paid, he stated.

More than 17 schools like Carmel School in Sunkadakatte, Vyasa International School in Kodigehalli also have refused to admit students under RTE despite seats being allotted. The parents are in utter confusion in this regard. The protesters were demanding that action should be initiated against such schools and also permit the parents to pay the donation in 4 installments, as per court’s ruling.

The parents staged dharna in front of the house the entire day and in the evening Minister’s personal secretary assured them that action would be taken on Saturday, following which the protest was withheld.
