NEET counselling turns out to be not so neat

The documents’ verification process of the aspirants for the medical courses under NEET at the Central office of Karnataka Examination Authority at Malleswaram was anything but neat. There was chaos and confusion from beginning to end, reports Kannada Prabha.

The document verification process did not commence at the designated time and students were forced to stay back even till midnight. There was no drinking water or toilet facilities at the premises and with 30,000 students gathered it is hell. The students who were called to report in the morning are made to wait till late evening. Those who were given time in the afternoon had to wait till midnight. The reason for this as some attribute is the fact that the officials wanted to complete the process at the earliest and invited more students than they can handle, reports Kannada Prabha.

Some of the outstation students who spoke to Kannada Prabha said they were called in the morning but had to wait till evening. One Malleshwari Reddy from Andhra Pradesh, aspirant of MBBS seat, said she was called at 3.30 pm but till 10.30 pm also she was waiting. She had booked return ticket for 7.30 pm bus and got it cancelled and rebooked for 11 pm but even then she had to cancel as the session did not end. She had no place to stay that night.

Nishanth Agarwal from Chhattisgarh said he was given time of 4.30 pm and after 10.30 pm the officials are asking him to wait for another hour. He too had cancelled his flight return ticket.

The entire area around the Centre was over-crowded. Daily officers can verify around 10,000 to 12,000 candidates’ documents. But they are inviting 30,000 students. The staff at the authority are also unhappy with this. The officials said they were verifying documents till early morning on Monday and again had to report at 9 am on Tuesday.  Again on Tuesday, the crowd was huge and they could go home on Wednesday morning.
